Wonder Woman, Oatmeal, and Patience...

January 4, 2010.

This morning the boys and I were all awake by 7:00. I've been sick all weekend but woke up feeling rather well! I've been telling myself I would make time each morning to spend at least 5-10 minutes in the word or in prayer even if it was to the background of Jaxson's morning cartoons. :) And that is just what happened this morning.Madagascar and Jesus. The boys were both well occupied so I prayed and then I looked up a couple scriptures on patience. Why?
Because, oh....come nap time, PATIENCE has become a HUGE struggle for me. We'll get back to that in a moment. Afterwards, I felt like wonder woman. The joy of the Lord, a little quiet time with him, and I can conquer the world!!!!...or at least breakfast. I thought that I'd be wonder mom and actually cook REAL oatmeal (in place of the baby oatmeal you can buy and mix with milk...bleh!) So I did. With Maddox on one hip, and Jaxson helping poor the 1 1/2 cups of oats into the boiling milk...we had ourselves a real breakfast. Mix in a little apple sauce, and WA-LAH!
You'd think that would call for one smooth morning.

It did NOT.

For one thing, I burnt the milk on the bottom of the pan...oh well.
But then the tears...and more tears...and more tears. Jaxson did NOT LIKE my oatmeal (although he hadn't tried it.) ***MADDOX DID!*** Fits, then time out, then a spanking, more tears...etc. I wasn't prepared to have to apply my time with the Lord from 30 minutes ago so soon!

I guess I'm not wonder woman.

I'm not sure if it was the knowledge and scripture that helped because it was on the forefront of my mind or just the fact that I had actually spent time with the Lord. Probably both. I stayed patient. I stood firm. Finally, we came to an agreement. If Jaxson could at least TRY ONE bite, then he could have something else. He finally did. And then I let him have raisin bran.
My happy cereal eater.

Maybe I'm a softy but the fact that I didn't just give up all together and Jaxson actually took a bite of my oatmeal (that I had slaved over for nearly FIVE minutes) was a miracle from the Lord. :)

2 Timothy 4:2
"...preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction."

In other news, Maddox is taking a couple of steps!
Yes, yes, I know. He is just precious! He is so happy except when it comes to food. Put him in his high chair and he wants his food NOW! Mommy is learning patience so she can teach it to this one a little later. ;)
Ummmm...yes, there is a hole in his pj's. His big toe is poking out. Don't hate.Have a wonderful rest of your Monday!

Patience is one of the most important things a mommy can have, i think. :) Have a great rest of the day with your sweet boys!

Having a time with the Lord first thing no matter how short is a must. Another thing I found helpful at your stage in life was having a running dialogue with the Lord sort of praying without ceasing. Sometimes I would have them out loud so the children could hear and it would bring about a teachable moment with them or I would pray for wisdom in disciplining them. That really got their attention. Keep up the good work. Motherhood is an adventure.

You are so right. Thank you for your wisdom and encouragement. I am making it a goal to spend that time in the morning...and now will be trying to pray without ceasing. OUT LOUD! Thank you so much.
